Above the abyss

Über dem Abgrund

In his color theory, first published in 1810, J. W. Goethe attempts to bridge the gap between scientific observation and artistic creation.

The performance "Above the abyss" takes this dynamic as a starting point for its performance. In the first half the main ideas or the color theory are developed and made accessible with the help of some experiments. In this process the primeval phenomenon of the development of color is the center of interest.

In the second half the painter Helene Ravn from Copenhagen in Denmark will be working on a large format canvas taking up this topic. The artistic handling of this topic in painting, in black and white and color, will be accompanied by the musicians Udo Stunz (saxophone) and Ingo Ross (percussion) in the form of improvisation.

In this way an intense atmosphere is built up using observation and creation interpretation and spontaneous production.
 

In seiner 1810 erstmalig erschienenen "Farbenlehre" unternimmt  J. W. Goethe einen ersten Versuch, die tiefe Kluft zwischen wissenschaftlicher Betrachtung und künstlerischer Schöpfung zu überbrücken.

In diesem Spannungsverhältnis nimmt auch die Performance "Über dem Abgrund" ihren Ausgangspunkt. In der ersten Hälfte werden die Kerngedanken der Farbenlehre Goethes dargelegt und mit Hilfe von Experimenten anschaulich gemacht. Dabei steht das "Urphänomen der Farbentstehung" im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung.

Im zweiten Teil wird dann zu diesem Thema von der aus Kopenhagen  stammenden Malerin Helene Ravn an einer großformatigen Leinwand gearbeitet. Diese malerische Auseinandersetzung mit Hell-Dunkel und Farbe wird von den Musikern Udo Stunz, Saxophon und Ingo Ross, Percussion mit Improvisationen begleitet.
Auf diese Weise entsteht ein dichtes Stimmungsbild, indem Betrachtung und Produktion, Interpretation und Kreation zusammenfließen.

A most impressive acoustic and visual interpretation which consisted of painting sounds and music. The professional musicians Udo Stunz and Ingo Ross created moving sound experiences.
